Anisotropy in the Cosmic Microwave Background at Degree Angular Scales: Python V Results
نویسنده
چکیده
Observations of the microwave sky using the Python telescope in its fifth season of operation at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica are presented. The system consists of a 0.75 m offaxis telescope instrumented with a HEMT amplifier-based radiometer having continuum sensitivity from 37-45 GHz in two frequency bands. With a 0.91 × 1.02 beam the instrument fully sampled 598 deg of sky, including fields measured during the previous four seasons of Python observations. Interpreting the observed fluctuations as anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background, we place constraints on the angular power spectrum of fluctuations in eight multipole bands up to l ∼ 260. The observed spectrum is consistent with both the COBE experiment and previous Python results. There is no significant contamination from known foregrounds. The results show a discernible rise in the angular power spectrum from large (l ∼ 40) to small (l ∼ 200) angular scales. The shape of the observed power spectrum is not a simple linear rise but has a sharply increasing slope starting at l ∼ 150. Subject headings: cosmic microwave background cosmology: observations

Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropy Measurement from Python V
We analyze observations of the microwave sky made with the Python experiment in its fifth year of operation at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica. After modeling the noise and constructing a map, we extract the cosmic signal from the data. We simultaneously estimate the angular power spectrum in eight bands ranging from large (‘ 40) to small (‘ 260) angular scales, with power d...

We present in this paper a brief review of Ground-Based Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) experiments. We first recall the main experimental problems and adopted solutions. We then review the Tenerife experiments, giving an update together with some new results. Then results and problems from other experiments are highlighted including IAC-Bartol, Python, Saskatoon, Mobile Anisotropy Telecope (...
متن کاملGaussianity of Degree-Scale Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropy Observations
We present results from a first test of the Gaussianity of degree-scale cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy. We investigate Gaussianity of the CMB anisotropy by studying the topology of CMB anisotropy maps from the QMAP and Saskatoon experiments. We also study the QMASK map, a combination map of the QMAP and Saskatoon data. We measure the genus from noise-suppressed Wienerfiltered maps...
متن کاملAnalyzing data from DASI
We present an optimized layout of horn positions for the Degree Angular Scale Interferometer (DASI), which provides good coverage of the u-v plane and 3-fold symmetry. We investigate how an optimal subspace filtering analysis of a single pointing of DASI could be used to determine the anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background over a range of angular scales near 30. We discuss the compleme...
متن کاملMaxima: a Balloon-borne Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropy Experiment
We describe the Millimeter wave Anisotropy eXperiment IMaging Array (maxima), a balloon-borne experiment designed to measure the temperature anisotropy of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) on angular scales of 10 to 5. maxima mapped the CMB using 16 bolometric detectors in spectral bands centered at 150 GHz, 240 GHz, and 410 GHz, with 10 resolution at all frequencies. The combined receiver ...
